Good morning and welcome to Colfax. I'm Debbie Davis. In today's podcast, we're going to talk
about how women around the world won their right to vote. You heard me, right? Women in most
countries didn't use to be allowed to vote up until the nineteenth or twentieth century. Many could
not even own property. The lawmakers thought that women should just stay at home and take care
of their families. They did not let women have any opinions on how the country should be run.
Because they thought that women were not smart enough to make those decisions. Unbelievable,
right? But some women were determined to fight for that right. The organized events and asked to
change the laws so that women can vote in elections and even become politicians. Thanks to those
passionate activists, most countries now allow women over 18 years old to vote and own property.
As a woman, I will forever be grateful to those who fought hard to make sure women have the
